Completed in late 2023, this project included design & manufacture of over 400 three-metre-high panels for two sides of the Christchurch Hospital's 450-space car park building, along with additional metalwork components around the site.
These 4mm thick aluminium panels combine unperforated lower sections with perforated upper panels, incorporating custom perforations that reflect Ngāi Tahu Property iconography. Shaped to achieve the architect's dynamic vision, with contoured protrusions that cast ever-changing shadows throughout the day and nicely reflect the magenta lighting that transforms the façade at night.
In addition to providing design support for the architects, Fielden played the key role of coordinating batch manufacture with strategic site installation by VIP Metalwork. This ensured timely deliveries and seamless panel installation on a site with limited storage space.
