Beaumont Bridge

Opened to the public in July 2023, this 195m long composite concrete & steel bridge installation on State Highway 8 spans the Clutha / Mata-Au River at Beaumont in Central Otago. A suitable replacement for the former single lane steel lattice-girder bridge that served the community for 136 years.

Fielden were engaged to design and manufacture the balustrade panels for the downstream side of the new bridge. Keri from Aukaha envisioned these panels illustrating the alpine region, with golden grasses draping the upside-down forms of mountain ranges.  The perforations emulate the aesthetic of tukutuku panels, while further corrugations reflect the ridges and valleys of the region.

The Gold Pearl Kinetic powder from Dulux really enhances these contoured panels, elevating the bridge from a mere utilitarian structure to a work of art.
